"Mother to Son" Response

Author's Note: This is a response piece regarding the figurative language uses and the mood and tone is the poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes.
In the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes there are a couple of different figurative language uses. One of the figurative language uses is a metaphor. The metaphor is “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” This means that her life hasn’t been perfect like a crystal stair. A crystal stair is pretty much a priceless item that is just perfect which her life was obviously not.
Now after the figurative language uses there is also a tone and a couple moods that the person in the story is in. The tone of the story is depressed. It is depressed because the person in the story is in a depressed mood. Depressed is also one of the main moods in the story. It is one of the main moods because while the mother was telling this to her son she was depressed. Another mood in the story is hopefulness, which is also one of the main moods. It is another mood because while she is telling this to him she is hopeful that his life won’t happen like hers did. That is the figurative language and the reason/purpose for it and the tone and mood in the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes.
