Tasty and Not tasty Pancakes

Once there was a box of pancake mix. That one day was made into delicious pancakes. Then was eaten with syrup and butter for a delicious meal. Don’t get me wrong pancakes were not the only thing that got served with that meal. It was one of the most delicious things that were in with the meal though. As long as the person that cooked them cooked it right.

Now pancakes are very delicious and can come un-healthy and somewhat healthier boxes. Well the boxes aren’t being healthy and un-healthy. It’s the pancake mix inside the boxes that is healthy and un-healthy. It doesn’t matter to me which health grade the mix is. It only matter that I get the light and fluffy mix, because those are tasty. Pancakes are very delicious but if not made right or with the right batter to me they will taste disgusting.

Themes to "The Lottery"

Author’s Note: This is a themes piece about the themes of the story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson.

Have you ever been in a Lottery? Maybe you have but never like this one. In this story by Shirley Jackson, this lottery has a bad consequence if you win. You get stoned by all of your friends and family if you get the bad dotted card. There are many different themes that are in stories. But only some of them make the cut for good themes.

As I was saying is that there are many different themes. One of the themes is Luck. One is Luck because you are lucky if you get the blank card. On the other hand you are unlucky if you get the card with the black dots on it. Another theme is Inhumanity. Another is Inhumanity because this tradition is Inhumane. The tradition is every year there is a lottery but it is a bad lottery. If you so called win the lottery you get stoned.

Now this is Inhumane because the government forces everyone to kill their friends and family with torture. The way you kill them with torture is very cruel and mean. You stone them to death! Not kidding! Everyone has to throw one stone even the person’s kids, friends, and family. Those are themes and reasons for the themes to the story “The Lottery.”

Mirror with a Crack

I’m a crack in a mirror.
I have a gigantic fear.
That one day I will be forgotten.
While all alone and my wood is rotten.
I’m on a wall in a house.
With no friend but a mouse.
Just a mirror with a crack.
And a wall on my back.

Common Cold?

Author’s Note: This is a research essay on the common cold.
What is the common cold? The common cold is a virus that goes around at one particular time of year and affects your body. The common cold is a lot like the flu accept very different at the same time, but they both can be treated with the same things. Some antibiotics. There are many different ways that it affects your body but other than those ways there aren’t any secret ones.  There are many different types of colds and different types of symptoms you get when you have a cold and there is one really specific time of year you get colds and there are main reasons you get colds.

Considering all of those things above what causes the common cold. Viruses cause the common cold. “About half of the time a cold is caused by a class of viruses called rhinoviruses.” This is the main type of cold and it affects adults and children (What causes the common cold?, 2012).

Now, there are also cold and flu symptoms. The cold and flu are very similar. They are both respiratory infections caused by viruses. If a cold is misdiagnosed and the flu it isn’t a big deal. Even though you may think it may be a big deal it can at worst cause ear infections or sinus infections which can both be treated with antibiotics (Cold and Flu Symptoms, 2012).

Even thought viruses cause the common cold there is a main time of year that you get colds. Cold and Flu season is a virus that goes around all year long.  This season happens during the cold parts of the year. The flu and cold can sometimes be predicted or even tracked around the globe. The beginning of cold and flu activity varies by location (Cold and Flu Season, 2012).

So after all we have learned you get a lot of symptoms when you get a cold. But the cold really only goes around once a year and it gets tracked around the globe so you will know when it comes into your town so don’t be scared. As you can see is that, there are things that cause the common cold, things that happen to you when you get a cold, and there is a time of year that you get colds.

A Developing Jesse

Author’s Note: This is a character development piece on the character Jesse from the book “Bridge to Terrabithia.”

Has a character in a book that you are reading ever had a slight difference in attitude or actions from beginning to end? Well in the book “Bridge to Terrabithia” which I read the main character Jesse changed a lot from the start to end of the novel. But how he changed is a different story. There are many ways to change but only one way is the correct way.
In the previous paragraph I mentioned, “There is a specific way that he had a difference in attitude/action from start to end of “Bridge to Terrabithia.”” So, in the beginning of the novel he had an independent personality. He had an independent personality because he would always do things by himself. Such as whenever he would go for mile or more runs in the morning he would always go when everyone was sleeping. Also no one would ever have to help him get stuff together for school. He would always do it himself, so he was the do it yourself type of guy.
Now that we know that he is the do it yourself type of guy, here comes the twist. There’s a new girl that moves in his neighborhood, her name is Lesley. She is into all of the same activities that he is. They both like to run, what a coincidence. So instead of him still being the do it yourself type, he starts to go on runs with her, which I would have never thought would be possible.
So at this point of the novel he is becoming more of a people person not such a loner. He isn’t much of a loner anymore because of him and Lesley having running as a hobby in common they both go for runs with each other. Sometimes instead of just running for distance they have little competitions just for bragging rights, such as little races just for fun.
Lastly, towards the end of the story you can see how much he has changed from a do it yourself person to a people person. Some things that would show how much he has changed is how he was a person that would run by himself in the morning and now he has competitions with Lesley for fun with running. Also Jesse reminds me from Michael Oher in the novel "The Blind Side." Jesse reminds me oh Michael because in the begging of "The Blind Side" Michael was a no good child who was living on the streets and at the end of the book he was a kid who was in college and is getting a good education and is a fantastic football player even though before he didn't even play a sport besides for playing basketball with his friends. Now you can see that there is only truly one way to change throughout a period of time but it doesn’t have to be the same length of time.

"Big Yellow Taxi"

Author’s Note: This is a piece to describe the poem/song “Big Yellow Taxi.”

This poem had a very good meaning that you can use in life. In his she means that the environment is getting lost because of everything being developed. This makes her sad because she really likes to see wildlife and nature but she can’t because of everything being built. The mood of this poem is sympathetic. It is sympathetic because she wants you to feel bad for her because everything Mother Nature made is going away because of mankind. The tone of this poem is sad. It is sad because she is sad that everything is going away that she loves.

Now as far as the tone and mood goes I think that it doesn’t really go with the music. I feel this because in the song she sounds very happy and not sad. Even though this is supposed to be a sad and sympathetic poem in the song she sounds happy. She also sounds like she wants the reader to not be sympathetic. I feel that this could have been sung in a different tone of voice and using different background music. That is how I feel about the music off of the poem “Big Yellow Taxi.”

"Feild Below"

Author’s Note: This is a piece on the poem/song “Field Below.”

The poem “Field Below” I think has a very good meaning to it and it is good for what she is telling everyone. I think that she is wishing for something that she can't have because she lives in a big city. The tone for this poem is sad and hopeless. It is sad and hopeless because she is sad that all of the amazing nature is being destroyed. The mood of the poem is sympathetic. It is sympathetic because she is trying to make you feel sorry for all of the nature being destroyed and she wants to try to make it stop.
Well make all of the destroying of the nature stop.

As far as the tone and mood goes I feel that the music and voice used in the song for this poem is great for it. I think that it is good because the tone in voice of the lady singing is sad because she is sad and she is also feeling hopeless because she can’t do anything to make it stop. I overall feel that the song is a good song for the poem and should not be changed. That is how I feel about the poem and song “Field Below.”
