Authors Note: This is an essay about the themes and the most important theme in the book The Outsiders.
Have you ever wanted to write about one of the themes in the book that you are reading? Well I have and the theme that sticks out most to me is Family. I have a family. In fact I bet that you have a family too. So sometimes your family dies right? Well in the book it’s not their real family but it is a kid who is like a brother to them who dies so it is almost like real family died. It’s like that because there are always together and when the kids mom comes to the hospital he tells her to go back home and all he wanted to see where the kids who were friends/brothers to him. In this book there are many themes but o me one of the biggest themes in the book is Family/Friends.
Although there are many themes my favorite theme is friends/family. Some examples of this theme is like when Ponyboy leaves his house he usually isn’t going somewhere with his family even though he only has two brother left because his parents died in a car crash. If he did leave the house it would be with his favorite brother Sodapop not Darry because he is mean and he hates Darry. He really hates Darry because he slapped him for no good reason him and his friends fell asleep in a park and he came home late so Darry slapped him. So then he ran away.
Another example of the family theme is now that Johnny killed Bob who was the leader of the Socs they are hiding in the church Ponyboy isn’t worried about his brother Darry he is just worried about Sodapop. He isn’t worried about Darry because of what happened night that he got slapped which was the same day Johnny killed Bob who was the leader of the Socs. Johnny wants to write a letter to Sodapop but he doesn’t want Darry to read it because he thinks that he will get mad and hit him again.
Now you understand the Family theme in this book. You may have family but some other people don’t. So even if you have a loving family doesn’t expect everyone to have a family just like yours. Now you understand the biggest theme in this book even though this is one of many this is a big one.
